Pre-Kindergarten in 11 States: NCEDL's Multi-State Study of Pre-Kindergarten and Study of Statewide Early Education Programs (SWEEP)

Published: January 2005
This paper reports results from a study of 240 state-funded PK programs in six states. Compared to other preschool settings these state-funded PK program maintain relatively high standards. But they still have many teachers without college degrees paid substantially less than public school teachers. While class size and teacher-child ratios are acceptable, opportunities for learning are lower than anticipated.
